LAURUS
LAURUS
As a naturally compact, rounded, form of the stately Laurus nobilis (Bay Tree), Laurus ‘Pride of Provence’ lends itself to topiary work, either planted in the garden, or in large containers. Occasional clipping will enhance the rounded form, helping produce tight, compact, perfect ball shapes – ideal for formal settings, or sentinels either side of a garden entrance. Leathery, dark green, slightly shiny foliage not only looks extremely attractive year-round, but can be used as a herb (fresh or dried) to flavour many different dishes. Plant in free draining soil, in sun or semi-shade. Evergreen.
Laurus 'Tuscan Tower' (syn. 'Flavour Master') is a columnar-shaped selection of the mighty bay tree, however rather less proportionate. Its strong vertical form makes it the perfect choice for a pyramidal topiary specimen, sentinels either side of an entranceway, or accents in a potager or herb garden. Leaves can be used fresh or dried, to add a distinctive tea-like flavour to slow cooked dishes. 'Tuscan Tower' is extremely cold hardy and, once established, wind and drought tolerant. Plant in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Evergreen.
