An outstanding natural selection discovered on coastal cliffs in northern New Zealand, Coprosma ‘Lighthouse’ is a tough character that lends itself to low maintenance, low water requirement gardens. Being a coastal dweller, it is also very wind and salt-spray tolerant. Its spreading, compact habit makes it an ideal weed suppressing ground cover. Clean minimalist looks make it a good candidate for contemporary landscapes, where it can also be moulded to any desired shape by close clipping. Also looks fabulous juxtaposed with coloured grasses or as a sole container specimen. Plant in well-drained soil, in full sun, and protect from heavy frost. Trim to the desired shape annually, after the spring growth flush, to maintain a tidy, compact habit. Wind, coastal and dry tolerant, once established. Low maintenance plant. Evergreen.
