First Light

First Light
HEBE

Raised in Auckland, New Zealand, by well-known plantsman and breeder Jack Hobbs, Hebe ‘First Light’ was named for the New Millennium. It forms a dense, low spreading shrub of attractive bronzed young foliage that matures to a pleasing grey-green. From early to late summer, masses of soft shell-pink flower spikes drip from its cascading branches, attracting beneficial insects from far and wide. ‘First Light’ is the perfect choice for mass planting on difficult banks, adding colour and texture to the foreground of mixed garden borders, or as a large container specimen. It is pest and disease resistant and tolerant of a wide range of conditions from exposed coastal sites to warm, humid climes and frosty inland areas. It grows well in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade and is low water tolerant once established. Evergreen.
